Ukraine drives Poland exports
Ukraine has become Poland’s leading eastern trade partner since Russia’s 2022 invasion, with its share of Polish exports rising from about 2% before the war to 3.5%, according to a Polish Economic Institute report prepared with the College of Eastern Europe. In some recent months, Ukraine’s share reached 5%.
By contrast, Russia’s share of Polish exports fell from nearly 3% in 2021 to just 0.6% in the first half of 2025. Exports to Russia dropped more than 80% to €2.5 billion in 2024, while imports plunged from €17 billion to €1.8 billion as Poland phased out Russian energy supplies.
Poland exported more than €13 billion of goods to Ukraine in 2024, more than double pre-war levels. Poland is now Ukraine’s second-largest supplier after China.
Polish direct investment across 12 former Soviet states totaled $1 billion at end-2024, with nearly half in Ukraine and a quarter in Russia.
