An investment in Katowice for PLN 186 mln will bring historic buildings back to life
Muzeum Śląskie has launched a tender for a major revitalization project worth more than PLN 186 mln, aimed at restoring historic buildings of the former KWK Katowice coal mine in Katowice. The redevelopment will transform former industrial facilities, including the Bartosz power plant, water tower, forge, and mechanical workshops, into exhibition, educational, and cultural spaces. The 39-meter water tower will feature exhibition areas, a café, and a viewing point, while the former Bartosz shaft area will become a center for artistic and cultural events.
The project is financed through EU funds and the Silesian regional budget, with construction planned through 2028. Museum officials say the investment will preserve the industrial heritage of Upper Silesia while creating modern public and cultural spaces.
