Only 26% of adult Poles smoke cigarettes, which is the lowest percentage in history, CBOS has informed. According to the pollster’s research, currently, 31% of men and 21% of women are addicts. It is mainly men who are responsible for the decrease in the number of smokers visible in recent years. In 2012, 40% of them declared to be smokers (when it comes to women the figure stood at 23%).
According to the CBOS survey, the popularity of smoking also depends on the level of education of a particular respondent. Most smokers can be found among people with a primary or lower secondary education (34%) and basic vocational education (33%). Only 17% of people with a higher education declared to smoke regularly.
