Famak eyes nuclear role
Opole-based Famak is preparing to become a qualified supplier for Westinghouse, hoping to build key steel structures for Poland’s first nuclear power plant. The company is among six Polish firms undergoing certification for the project, alongside Mostostal Kielce, Mostostal Kraków, ZKS Ferrum, Energomontaż-Północ Gdynia, and Baltic Operator.
Famak has already implemented procedures compliant with the American NQA-1 quality standard and expects to finish the next stage by December 2025. After approval of a test mock-up, it can join Westinghouse’s list of qualified suppliers.
Certification doesn’t guarantee contracts—bidding will remain competitive. Still, CEO Leszek Zagórski says progress positions Famak to supply the first reactor, with construction beginning in 2028 and commissioning planned for 2036.
Founded in 1945, Famak posted PLN 193.9 million in revenue and PLN 33.9 million profit in 2024, specializing in heavy steel structures and cranes.
