The implementation of the requirements of the Fit for 55 package in the Polish heating sector will cost between PLN 276 billion and PLN 418 billion, according to a report prepared by the Polish Association of Combined Heat and Power Plants (PTEZ).

"Transformation of the energy sector, including district heating, is inevitable. We need decarbonization. And at the same time, EU regulations, including the Fit for 55 package, strongly influence the scope and pace of the entire transformation," Wojciech Dabrowski, president of the Polish Energy Group and the Polish Association of Combined Heat and Power Plants, said at a press briefing.

"The analysis showed that meeting the requirements of the Fit for 55 package requires, depending on the scenario, spending up to PLN 100 billion for transmission and distribution infrastructure, up to PLN 178 billion on generation infrastructure and up to PLN 140 billion on modernization of consumer facilities. In total, about PLN 400 billion is needed to decarbonize district heating in Poland to meet the requirements of the Fit for 55 package," Dabrowski said.
