Government plans 30% CIT for energy giants
The government plans to temporarily raise corporate income tax for Poland’s largest energy and fuel companies, with the rate set to reach 30% in 2027. The measure would apply to companies with annual revenues exceeding EUR 50 million operating in areas including oil and gas extraction and trading, fuel production, electricity distribution and transmission. The standard CIT rate is currently 19%.
Under the proposal, the special rate would fall to 26% in 2028 and 23% in 2029. Revenue generated by the higher tax would help finance measures aimed at reducing energy costs for energy-intensive industry, with the support program carrying a total budget of PLN 4.8 billion. The government also expects the measure to improve public finances. From 2030, affected companies would return to the standard CIT rate applicable to large businesses.
