Jet fuel spike fears
Rising tensions in the Persian Gulf have pushed aviation fuel prices sharply higher, yet Polish airlines say the impact on ticket prices should remain limited for now. Following attacks on Iran and disruption in the Strait of Hormuz—through which about one-fifth of global oil flows—tanker traffic has fallen by as much as 70–80 percent, raising concerns about supply. The International Air Transport Association warns Europe is particularly exposed, relying on the region for roughly 25–30 percent of its Jet-A1 fuel.
Data from early March shows wholesale Jet-A1 prices in Europe jumping more than 58 percent week-on-week to about $1,286 per tonne. Experts say airlines are protected by hedging strategies that lock in fuel costs and exchange rates. Both LOT Polish Airlines and charter carrier Enter Air confirm their fuel contracts are secured for the upcoming summer season. If prices stay above $1,000 per tonne long term, Enter Air says package prices with tour operators could be reconsidered.
