Magdalena Boczarska Advocates for Fair Internet Royalties for Actors

On Tuesday, Magdalena Boczarska joined other actors in a protest outside the Polish Parliament during the first reading of the amendment to the Copyright and Related Rights Act. The amendment ensures that digital platforms and cable networks fairly compensate artists for their work. According to Mateusz Banasiuk, actors have been fighting for these changes for months to align with European standards. Currently, artists lose over PLN 41 million annually due to outdated laws.
“These payments are our rightful compensation for our work. These funds would allow us to live comfortably from month to month. Royalties from streaming are easy to calculate because they depend on the success of a film or series. It’s the platforms, not the viewers, that pay based on the number of views, ” Boczarska emphasized.
The protest saw notable figures like Maja Ostaszewska and Maciej Zakościelny advocating for clear legislation that guarantees internet royalties for all creators, including dubbing actors and audiobook narrators.
