The European Union is tightening environmental regulations, requiring new homes to be zero-emission by 2030 and existing buildings to meet these standards by 2050. This means mandatory renovations, including wall and roof insulation, window replacement, heat pumps, and solar panels.
The EU directive on energy efficiency in buildings, part of the Green Deal, aims to reduce carbon emissions. In Poland, over 900,000 buildings must be renovated by 2030, including 778,000 single-family homes. By 2050, the number rises to 4.4–6 million.
While the policy promotes sustainability, homeowners must bear the costs, sparking concerns about financial strain. A national renovation plan is under discussion, but large-scale funding solutions remain unclear.
