Min Fin: excise tax on alcohol is only part of tax plan

Poland’s Ministry of Finance expects around PLN 10 billion in additional revenue next year from planned tax changes, mainly through higher bank taxation and excise duties. Deputy Finance Minister Jarosław Neneman estimated PLN 6.6 billion from raising banks’ CIT while lowering the bank tax, PLN 1.82 billion from higher alcohol excise and a new winnings tax, and PLN 1.3 billion from sugar and substance levies. The most controversial move is a 15% alcohol excise hike, exceeding the current 5% roadmap. Neneman argued the increase is modest, but President Karol Nawrocki vowed to veto it, citing his promise to block higher burdens on citizens.
He also rejected a bill lowering excessive penalties for minor tax violations.
