Nuclear roadmap nears
Poland will unveil an updated version of its national nuclear energy programme after the long weekend, according to Deputy Climate and Environment Minister Wojciech Wrochna. The revised strategy is expected to provide greater clarity on the timetable, financing and implementation of the country’s planned nuclear projects, including the first large-scale reactor complex at Choczewo on the Baltic coast.
The facility is being developed by state-owned Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe in partnership with US companies Westinghouse and Bechtel. A separate roadmap covering small modular reactors (SMRs) is also expected in June. Nuclear power has become a cornerstone of Poland’s long-term energy strategy as the country seeks to reduce dependence on coal, strengthen energy security and meet European decarbonisation targets while maintaining reliable electricity supplies.
