The Port of Gdańsk has strengthened its position among Europe’s biggest maritime hubs, rising from 11th to eighth place overall and ranking sixth within the EU after overtaking Valencia, Amsterdam and Constanța. Poland’s largest port handled 80.4 million tonnes of cargo in 2025, marking a 3.93% year-on-year increase—the strongest growth among EU ports.

Port officials say the performance reflects nearly two decades of investment, including the development of the Baltic Hub, now the only container hub in the Baltic Sea. Management highlighted the port’s strategic importance during a summary meeting this week, stressing its growing contribution to the national, regional and local economy.

Momentum has continued into 2026, with first-quarter volumes up more than 15% quarter-on-quarter. Growth was driven by key cargo categories, particularly general cargo, which rose 16.6% to 27.2 million tonnes, and liquid fuels, which edged up 0.4% to 39.6 million tonnes.
