The opening ceremony of the Baltic Pipe took place on Tuesday in Goleniów. The pipeline will deliver 6.5 billion cubic meters of Norwegian gas to Poland in 2023, and its total capacity is expected to reach 10 billion cubic meters per year.
The pipeline was launched by President Andrzej Duda, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, and Prime Minister of Denmark Mette Frederiksen. Duda recalled that the project started in 2016. “After many years of discussions often disputes, and various attempts that often failed, we are opening the gas pipeline, which was a Polish dream, for those who had the vision to strengthen the independence of our country,” he said.
The European Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, said that the pipeline will play a valuable role in mitigating the current energy crisis. “The Baltic Pipe is a key project for the security of supply of the region and the result of an EU policy drive to diversify sources of gas,” he said.
