Poland’s budget deficit tops PLN 141bn
Poland’s state budget deficit exceeded PLN 141 billion after the first seven months of 2026, leaving the government roughly halfway through its full-year deficit plan as work begins on the 2027 budget. Revenue reached PLN 333.9 billion, equivalent to 51.6 percent of the annual target, while expenditure totaled PLN 475 billion, or 51.7 percent of plan. Economists said the figures are not yet cause for alarm because budget execution remains broadly consistent with patterns seen during the previous two years.
The fiscal challenge nevertheless remains substantial. Economists point to the persistent gap between government revenue and expenditure, while the second half of the year traditionally brings disproportionately high spending. CIT receipts are performing relatively strongly, but excise-tax revenue is lagging behind the government’s assumptions. Ministers are now preparing the 2027 budget, with a working cabinet meeting scheduled for August 21 and another discussion planned for August 28.
