Polish Farmers: Climate Concerns vs. Green Practices

Polish farmers are in a bind. They face financial struggles, a volatile market, and the looming threat of climate change. A surprising 73 percent of farmers surveyed downplay agriculture's role in climate change, despite witnessing extreme weather events firsthand. Interestingly, the study found women farmers are more likely to acknowledge agriculture's impact on the environment.
Half of the farms surveyed barely break even, leaving little room for environmental investments. That’s why farmers prioritize survival, seeking additional income streams to stay afloat.
Despite skepticism about agriculture's role in climate change, a majority of farmers support eco-friendly practices. However, the gap between support and implementation is significant. Far fewer actually use these methods.
Polish agriculture faces a complex challenge. While some farmers remain unconvinced of their environmental impact, many are open to sustainable practices. To bridge the gap, support programs that address financial concerns alongside environmental education are likely to be most effective.
