Protectionism Could Hurt Poland and EU in Asian Trade

At the Economic Forum in Karpacz, experts warned that EU protectionism risks weakening trade with Asia, especially China, and undermining Poland’s competitiveness.
Poland’s imports from China far exceed exports, with the local industry heavily reliant on Chinese semiconductors and solar panels.
“If we build too many barriers, we risk cutting off vital supply chains,” Maciej Ptaszyński of the Polish Chamber of Commerce said.
EU tariffs on Chinese electric cars have already sparked retaliation, costing Poland opportunities in the battery sector. Panelists stressed that Poland lacks a clear long-term Asia strategy and must avoid zero-sum thinking.
Instead, experts urged greater openness, stronger partnerships, and investment in institutions to secure Poland’s position in global markets.
