Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree extending the embargo on food products from the EU, which will now be in force till December 31, 2020. Russia imposed the embargo after the EU’s introduction in 2014 of sanctions connected with the Russian annexation of Crimea and invasion of eastern Ukraine. Last Thursday, during a summit in Brussels, EU leaders unanimously decided to extend economic sanctions against Russia for the next six months. The EU has continued to extend the sanctions ever since they were introduced and has made their potential future abolition dependent on the full implementation by Russia of the Minsk Agreements. Although the deadline for the implementation was originally set for December 31, 2015, the agreements have not been implemented yet.
