Student Budgets Near PLN 4,000 Monthly, Doubling in Six Years

The average monthly expenses of Polish students are approaching PLN 4,000, nearly double the level from 2016, according to the Portfel Studenta report by the Warsaw Institute of Banking and the Polish Bank Association. Students in non-stationary programs spend an average of PLN 3,979.22 per month, including around PLN 560 in tuition fees. For full-time students, the figure is slightly lower at PLN 3,419.22.
Housing remains the largest burden, with costs typically ranging from PLN 1,200 to 1,500, though nearly one in five pays more. Food is the second-largest expense. To ease the pressure, over 40 percent of students live with family or friends, while only 10 percent benefit from dormitories, whose availability remains limited.
“From a student’s perspective, these are very high costs,” Michał Polak, Vice President of the Warsaw Institute of Banking, said.
Still, 41 percent of students rate their financial situation better than a year ago.
