Poland, US discuss energy cooperation

Polish officials held talks in Washington with U.S. counterparts on expanding energy cooperation, focusing on nuclear power and liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies. Finance Minister Andrzej Domański and U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright reviewed progress on Poland’s first nuclear power plant, to be developed by Westinghouse and Bechtel. Discussions also covered selecting a partner for a second facility under the Polish Nuclear Power Programme.
The Ministry of Energy said both sides examined ways to boost American LNG deliveries via the Świnoujście terminal to strengthen Poland’s energy independence and support regional partners, including Ukraine. Meetings also included U.S. EXIM Bank representatives and Orlen executives.
Energy analyst Wojciech Jakóbik noted that with projects such as the Baltic Pipe and the planned floating terminal in the Bay of Gdańsk (due 2028), Poland is positioned to become a regional gas hub.
