Warsaw Leads: Highest Earnings, Lowest Debts

According to the latest data from the Central Statistical Office (GUS), Warsaw has emerged as Poland's best place to live, boasting the highest median gross salary and the lowest debt levels. In September 2024, the national median gross wage stood at PLN 6,683, while the median consumer debt was PLN 5,127 – roughly three-quarters of the median salary. This means an average debtor would need to allocate three weeks' wages to cover their debts, leaving only one week’s earnings for living expenses.
Men, who earn PLN 420 more on average than women, also tend to carry higher debt burdens.
“Higher income can create a sense of stability, but it also encourages riskier financial behaviors. Wealthier individuals often struggle to recognize the critical nature of their financial situation, delaying necessary actions,” Jakub Kostecki, CEO of Kaczmarski Inkasso, noted.
