Air pollution costs $8 bn every day globally

As much as 3 percent of Gross Global Product, or $2.9 trillion a year, is losing the world because of air pollution, according to a report by Greenpeace Southeast Asia and the Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air.
The authors of the study claim that China ($900 billion), the USA ($600 billion) and India ($150 billion) bear the largest losses due to atmospheric pollution. They indicate that the effect of using fossil fuels is about 4.5 million premature deaths each year. They also claim that exposure to dust whose particles are no larger than 2.5 micrometers contributes to the death of approximately 40,000 children before they reach the age of five.
