Crisis in Middle East confirms correctness of energy transition
The war in the Middle East is seen as a “stress test” confirming Europe’s energy transition strategy, according to industry leaders at the EuroPower conference. Executives from Energa and Tauron argued that shifting to renewables increases resilience and reduces dependence on geopolitical shocks.
Onshore wind energy, supported by storage and flexible demand, was highlighted as a key solution. Experts also discussed extending capacity market mechanisms beyond 2028 while reducing reliance on coal, which is becoming less efficient. Gas and nuclear energy are expected to help fill future supply gaps. Despite current volatility, Gaz-System emphasized that global gas supply, especially from the US, will continue to grow.
