GUS: in Q1, Poland’s population fell by 155,000 y/y
Poland’s population fell by 155,000 y/y to 37.281 million at the end of the first quarter of 2026, according to Statistics Poland (GUS).
On a q/q basis, the population declined by about 51,000.
The real population decrease rate in January to March 2026 was -0.14%, meaning 14 people per 10,000 residents were lost.
Preliminary data show that around 57,500 live births were recorded in the first three months, similar to the previous year.
Natural change remained negative at -54,500, meaning deaths significantly exceeded births. On average, 58 people per 10,000 population were lost due to natural decrease in Q1 2026, compared with 59 a year earlier.
