A BIG InfoMonitor–BIK report reveals growing acceptance of minor financial misconduct in Poland, despite widespread declarations of ethical values. While 85% of Poles claim to act ethically, many admit to “small cheats” such as fare-dodging or declining receipts, and only 44% believe others behave honestly. In business, the impact is more severe: 48% of firms struggle with late invoice payments, and illegal employment practices remain common. Overdue consumer and corporate debts now total almost PLN 130 billion, undermining trust and creating payment gridlocks.

Experts attribute the problem to low detectability and social normalization of such behavior. Respondents see financial education, better enforcement and a simpler tax system as the most effective solutions.
