Nearly all of Europe is facing the challenge of illegal migration. This issue primarily affects the southern European countries but also Poland due to the migration channel created through Belarus by Alexander Lukashenko's regime. On May 6-7 alone, there were 434 attempts of illegal entry into Poland from Belarus.
Therefore, the Polish government has begun to work on preparing a comprehensive migration strategy, aimed at effective and responsible management of migration to our country. Just 10 years ago, our country hosted about 100,000 migrants. Currently, it is estimated that over 2.5 million people reside here, most of them Ukrainians who came to Poland after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine in February 2022.
"We must realize that Poland has transformed from a predominant emigration country into an immigration country faster than any other in history. Today, Poland has all the characteristics, except for the second generation, of an immigration country, which means that it must responsibly approach migration issues," Dr. Maciej Duszczyk, Deputy Secretary of State in the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration, pointed out.
