Minimum wage talks heat up
Poland's cabinet met on Tuesday, June 9, to set the opening position for minimum wage negotiations covering 2027. The government is proposing a 3 percent rise — to PLN 4,986 gross per month — after an internal compromise between the Labour Ministry (which wanted 3.7 percent) and the Finance Ministry (which pressed for 2.5 percent). The figure represents 50 percent of the projected average wage for next year. The proposal now goes to the Social Dialogue Council, which has 30 days to negotiate a joint position with unions and employers. Employers' groups have already pushed back, arguing the increase should be capped strictly at the statutory formula. If no consensus is reached, the government sets the rate by decree before September 15. Poland's minimum wage has more than doubled in a decade — rising by PLN 3,056 since 2015.
