Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE) plans to invest PLN 18 billion in energy storage, aiming to build 85 storage units by 2035. The first large-scale battery storage facility is now under construction in Żarnowiec, with 262 MW power and 981 MWh capacity, costing PLN 1.5 billion.

The initiative is crucial for balancing Poland’s growing renewable energy sources (RES), storing excess power from wind and solar farms when demand is low. Six large-scale battery units will be built in Żarnowiec, Gryfino, Rogowiec, Rybnik, and Kraków, totaling PLN 6 billion.

Additionally, PGE is developing 26 smaller storage units and has 50 more projects in the pipeline, with a total capacity of 17,200 MWh, enough to power 2.5 million households for 24 hours.
