PIE Survey: Poland’s economic situation will improve within next 10 years

A Polish Economic Institute report indicates that policymakers believe Poland's economy will gradually improve over the next decade. The study explores sociotechnical imaginaries, collective visions shaping technology, policy, and society.
Policymakers highlight digital transformation as a key governance area, influenced by EU strategies like "Path to the Digital Decade" and Poland’s Digitalization Strategy. However, concerns exist over over-regulation, which may weaken Poland’s tech sector and deter investors.
The EU is seen as both a partner and a regulator, helping member states negotiate with Big Tech while imposing legal constraints. Policymakers stress the importance of cybersecurity, digital literacy, and 5G/6G infrastructure for national resilience.
The centralization of digital governance remains debated, with some advocating for a specialized body, while others warn against bureaucratic inefficiency. Automation and AI are viewed as both an opportunity and a challenge, potentially mitigating Poland’s demographic crisis while posing risks to employment and social stability.
Cybersecurity, misinformation, and privacy are major concerns, especially given geopolitical tensions. However, technological optimism prevails, with many viewing digital advancements as drivers of economic growth and quality of life improvements.
