PGZ to double anti-aircraft missiles, many selling internationally

Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ) plans to double production of Piorun man-portable air defense missiles within four years, from the current 1,300 to about 2,600 units annually, reports Rzeczpospolita. Produced by Mesko in Skarżysko-Kamienna, the Piorun is one of Poland’s top defense export successes.
The missile, effective against helicopters and aircraft up to six km away, proved highly reliable during the war in Ukraine. Buyers include Norway, Estonia, Latvia, Moldova, the U.S., and Sweden, which recently ordered missiles worth PLN 1.2 billion for delivery by 2027. The Polish Armed Forces remain the main customer, with 3,500 missiles and 600 launchers ordered. Piorun’s production has surged since 2019, when output was just 300 units per year.
