Poland may end state-regulated electricity pricing as market energy rates become increasingly competitive, according to Rafał Gawin, head of the Energy Regulatory Office. Speaking at the National Energy Summit, Gawin stated that regulated tariffs, while an option, aren’t obligatory, and consumers can opt for market rates. He emphasized the need for market-driven flexibility to stabilize energy costs and better serve the economy.
Minister of Climate and Environment Paulina Hennig-Kloska echoed this sentiment, noting that price freezes, introduced during the energy crisis, should be phased out. She highlighted targeted support measures like energy vouchers for low-income households, impacting over 2.4 million homes. The budget for support mechanisms is expected to decrease from PLN 33 billion to a maximum of PLN 5 billion by next year.
