What might be seen as flexing muscles by some, nearly PLN 50 billion (€11.8bn) – as much as 2.1 percent of Poland’s GDP – has been allocated for defense spending in the draft budget for 2020, according to a statement made by the Polish defense ministry on Thursday. The parliamentary defense committee positively assessed it.
Slightly less than a quarter of the budget – PLN 12.4 billion (€2.9bn) has been set aside for personal expenses, including soldiers’ and army personnel salaries.
The ministry hopes to see a gradual rise in defense spending, reaching 2.5 percent by 2030.
