Polish budget reaches record deficit
The Polish government has presented its budget for next year with revenues of PLN 647.2 billion, spending of PLN 918.9 billion, and a record deficit of PLN 271.7 billion. Despite concerns, Janusz Cichoń, head of the Parliamentary Public Finance Committee, argues that the high deficit does not threaten economic stability. He highlights solid GDP growth forecasts, low unemployment, and falling inflation as key strengths. Major spending areas include defense, healthcare, infrastructure, and social programs such as PLN 61.7 billion for “800 plus” and PLN 31.8 billion for the 13th and 14th pensions.
To boost revenue, the government plans higher excise taxes and temporary increased taxation on banks.
