Polish exports of agri-food products record decline in first half of ‘24
In the first half of 2024, Poland experienced its first decline in agricultural and food product exports since 2009, with a 7.6% drop in value compared to the same period in 2023. The total export value was PLN 111.9 billion, down from PLN 121.1 billion. Several factors contributed to this decline: transaction prices for exported food were 6.2% lower, and the Polish złoty strengthened by 7.1% against the euro, making Polish products more expensive abroad.
Despite the decrease, the share of agricultural products in total exports rose slightly from 14.5% to 14.8%. The EU remained the primary market, absorbing 73% of exports. Germany was the largest recipient, accounting for 25% of total exports. Challenges for Polish producers include reliance on competitive pricing, increasing production costs, and the integration of Ukrainian products into the EU market. Moving forward, Polish exporters must adapt to these challenges and enhance their market presence by improving quality and brand recognition.
