In 2023, the number of freight wagons in Poland rose to 83,761, marking the first increase since 2018. The total number of vehicles, including locomotives, also grew to 87,973 from 87,472 in 2022. This reflects ongoing modernization efforts in the Polish railway sector, with a notable rise in the use of dual-powered and electric locomotives. While the average age of electric locomotives decreased, the use of these vehicles slightly declined. The industry also saw improvements in locomotive equipment, with more trains equipped with cameras and climate control systems.

However, features like onboard toilets remain rare in electric and diesel locomotives.
