Apartment tenants can count on a rent subsidy of up to PLN 1,500 per month for six months. The government is planning such assistance for people affected by the economic effects of Covid-19.

The draft adopted at the end of July provides, inter alia, higher housing allowances for tenants suffering from the effects of the epidemic, that will amount approx. PLN 420 million just this year. According to the Ministry of Development, the new regulations are to apply to tenants of municipal flats, social housing associations, cooperatives or those rented from a private person or company.

Subsidy to the housing allowance to cover up to 75 percent of rent financed from the state budget will be granted by the municipality to those households that will apply for these benefits by December 31, 2020. Beneficiaries will, however, have to prove that in the last three months their average monthly income not only qualifies them for a housing allowance, but also was by at least 25 percent lower than in 2019.

The housing allowance will be due if the tenant was a tenant of a flat before March 14, 2020. The Ministry also assumes that the allowance will be excluded from administrative enforcement.
