Spending of foreigners in Poland 50.2% higher than Poles abroad in ‘24
In 2024, cross-border traffic to and from Poland rose by 0.5% y/y, according to Statistics Poland (GUS). Foreigners accounted for 56% of all crossings, most of which (72.8%) occurred along Poland’s land borders with EU countries. Only air travel saw growth, up 14.1%, while other border sections declined. Spending by foreigners in Poland was 50.2% higher than Poles’ expenditures abroad. Foreign visitors mainly came for shopping (57.6%), while Polish residents traveled mostly for leisure (43.7%) and shopping (22.8%).
Cross-border activity was concentrated within 50 km of the frontier. Foreigners spent mostly on goods (71.4%), whereas Poles abroad spent primarily on services (64.3%). Overall, nonresidents’ spending in Poland rose 5.3% y/y, and Poles’ abroad 12.9% y/y.
