‘Current drought has very negative impact on sowing’
The current drought has a very negative impact on sowing, Poland’s met office (IMGW) has stated in a press release published on May 4.
“In the first 10 days of April, a significant decrease in soil moisture was recorded in the layer of 7-28 cm, and then in the deeper root layer (28-100 cm), although here the humidity index fluctuates within 30-50 percent depending on the region. Currently observed soil drought has a very negative effect on sowing and may reduce agricultural yields.”
“We also see that in Poland the soil moisture index in the shallow layer has fallen below 30 percent, and in places below 20 percent,” IMGW added.
