Dep Min of Agriculture suggest UOKiK look into excessive profits from butter and eggs
Poland’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Michał Kołodziejczak, has criticized large retail chains for not lowering the prices of butter and eggs despite significant drops in wholesale prices. He claims that major stores are making excessive profits at consumers’ expense. Butter prices dropped from around €860 to €730–740 per 100 kg, while wholesale prices of caged eggs also fell in recent weeks.
However, retail prices remain high. Kołodziejczak called this practice “pathological” and suggested that the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) should investigate. He plans to meet with UOKiK’s president to discuss potential actions against price manipulation and dominance abuse by major retailers.
