Longest road bridge over Narew Valley completed
A 1,205-meter bridge, now the longest road bridge in the Podlaskie region and among the ten longest in Poland, has been completed as part of the S61 expressway and the new Łomża bypass. Built by Intercor, the structure is a key element of the Via Baltica corridor, significantly improving international and local traffic by enabling a safe, collision-free crossing of the Narew Valley. With this final section finished, the entire 310-kilometer Polish stretch of S61 from Warsaw to Budzisko is now fully operational as an expressway.
The project, valued at around PLN 713 million, was delivered in the Design and Build system for GDDKiA with support from EU funds and the Infrastructure and Environment Programme. Intercor constructed nearly 13 kilometers of modern roadway, upgraded over 7 kilometers of DK 64, and delivered three major junctions: Łomża Zachód, Nowogród and Łomża Północ. The bridge itself includes two 150-meter cantilever spans and incorporates environmental and safety features such as an animal passage and integration with local municipal roads.
Construction required advanced engineering methods, including incremental launching and cantilever techniques. Intercor, a leading Polish infrastructure contractor, has a strong track record in major bridge and road projects nationwide.
