Opole draws automotive billions
Opole is emerging as a major hub for automotive investment, attracting large-scale projects from the United States and South Korea worth a combined PLN 9 billion.
Kumho Tire, the Korean tire manufacturer, has purchased a 30-hectare site in Opole-Wrzoski for PLN 36 million and will invest around PLN 2 billion in building its first European production plant. The factory, located within the Wałbrzych Special Economic Zone “Invest Park,” is scheduled to start operations in 2028, produce up to 6 million tires annually, and initially employ about 400 people. The company selected Opole for its strong logistics, skilled workforce, infrastructure, and access to EU markets, supported by incentives including a 15-year income tax exemption.
Nearby, US-based Ascend Elements will invest PLN 7 billion in a 44-hectare electric vehicle battery materials plant, to be completed by 2031 and employing 200 people. The project received a PLN 1.22 billion government grant.
