German will extend border controls, including with Poland
German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt announced that Germany will extend border controls for another six months from March 15, including on the border with Poland. The measures will remain in place at least until mid September and are part of a broader reorganization of Germany’s migration policy. Berlin has notified the European Commission, as border checks within the Schengen area are permitted only as an exceptional measure.
Random inspections will continue to affect all nine neighboring countries, potentially causing delays for travelers and cross border commuters. Everyone crossing the border must carry identification. Germany has maintained controls on the Polish border since October 2023, officially to curb illegal migration.
