GUS: Poland’s population decreased by 68,000 in H1
In the first half of 2023, Poland's population decreased by 68,000, marking a real decline with a rate of -0.18%. This continues a trend observed in the previous year, where the population decreased by 80,000 (-0.21%). The decline is primarily attributed to unfavorable trends in the annual natural increase. Since 2013, there has been a natural decrease due to a persistently low birth rate (despite growth in 2016-2017) coupled with an increase in the number of deaths, driven by an aging population.
As of the end of June 2023, Poland's population stood at 37,698,000, with 22,447,000 residing in urban areas, constituting 60% of the population.
