Housing stock increased to 15.97 mln apartments at end of ‘24

At the end of 2024, Poland had 15.97 million dwellings, up 1.2% y/y, containing 61.2 million rooms (+1.1% y/y), according to Statistics Poland (GUS). The average dwelling size reached 75.6 m², up 0.1 m² from 2023, with urban dwellings growing faster (+1.3%) than rural ones (+0.9%). Cities had 10.8 million dwellings (704.2 million m²) and villages 5.1 million (502.6 million m²).
Living space per person rose to 32.2 m², with 31.6 m² in cities and 33 m² in rural areas. Rural dwellings averaged 98.1 m² versus 64.9 m² in cities and had more rooms (4.54 vs 3.50).
Most dwellings (57.9%) were privately owned outside housing associations. Meanwhile, municipal rental stock declined to 595,800 units (-1.2% y/y), while households waiting for municipal flats fell 3.6% to 119,400. Municipal land for housing totaled 24,300 ha, 62.5% in cities.
