German truck and bus manufacturer MAN plans to move part of its production from Munich to Kraków, triggering sharp internal conflict, according to German media. The shift aims to cut costs, boost efficiency, and improve finances by an estimated €935 million by 2028. The move will also reduce jobs: around 2,300 positions in Germany are expected to disappear through attrition, though unions warn losses could reach 3,000. Lower labor, energy, and logistics costs in Poland – and higher subsidies available there – are key motives.

Although German unions proposed wage concessions to save jobs, management rejected the offer. The case reflects a broader trend: over 50,000 German jobs were relocated abroad between 2021 and 2023, mainly to reduce labor costs and address strategic pressures.
