Poland’s trillion-zloty energy push
Poland plans to invest PLN 1 trillion in energy over the next decade, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced at the PowerConnect conference in Gdańsk, calling energy security central to national security amid global conflicts.
The spending will cover renewable energy, storage, nuclear power, and grid infrastructure. Planned allocations include more than PLN 220 billion for renewables and storage, PLN 234 billion for distribution networks, and PLN 160 billion for nuclear energy. A nuclear plant is under construction in Pomerania, while a major battery storage facility is being developed near Żarnowiec alongside offshore wind projects.
Tusk said Poland and several EU countries have asked the European Commission to extend free emission allowances for industry while adjusting climate policies to reflect national circumstances.
Energy Minister Miłosz Motyka noted the renewable sector already employs over 200,000 people, while state energy firms such as Tauron and Enea are preparing multibillion-zloty investment programs.
