Poland is one of the most important producers of goose meat in the EU – in 2015-2019, entrepreneurs exported 17,000-22,000 tonnes of this meat, mainly to Germany, reports the National Agricultural Support Center (KOWR). In recent years, there has been a dynamic increase in the geese population in our country.

"The growing production of goose meat in Poland results from the sustained export demand and the increasing popularity of this meat among Polish consumers who appreciate its taste, health and diet values," Marcin Wroński, Deputy Director-General of the KOWR, explained.

Due to their high quality, Polish geese are also appreciated by foreign consumers. In the last five years (2015-2019), domestic entrepreneurs sold about 90 percent of volume in the EU market, mainly to Germany. Polish goose meat is sold to almost all other EU countries, but exports to these countries so far are much smaller.

"The value of Polish geese is appreciated not only by European consumers. The second-largest market for Polish goose meat is Hong Kong, which in 2019 received 1,800 tonnes of this product," Wroński said.

As he pointed out, a statistical inhabitant of Poland consumes much less goose meat compared to chicken or turkey meat. That is why promotional campaigns are of great importance, including the nationwide campaign ‘Buy consciously’.
