Warsaw wants to allocate PLN 60 mln to photovoltaics in city buildings in 2022-2024
Warsaw will spend PLN 60 million on installing photovoltaics on municipal buildings in 2022-2024, the city said. By the end of 2030, all possible buildings belonging to the City Hall and municipal units are to be equipped with photovoltaic panels.
"The Urban Photovoltaic Development Program is the implementation of one of the recommendations of the Warsaw Climate Panel, which will bring the city closer to achieving climate neutrality by 2050. According to the assumptions of the program, by the end of 2030, all municipal buildings in the capital, where this is possible, will be equipped with solar panels,” the release reads.
The city authorities assume that this will allow, above all, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions – by 2030, CO2 emissions in the capital will decrease by a total of almost 87,000 tonnes. The assumed financial savings in the years 2022-2030 thanks to the panels will total over PLN 70 million. The program will also help to increase the energy security of Warsaw.
“If we want to make Europe independent of oil and gas, we need to accelerate investment in renewable energy sources. We have been doing this in Warsaw for years. More than 140 city buildings already have photovoltaic panels. We decided to install such installations in all municipal facilities by 2030. We want Warsaw to be increasingly independent of fossil fuels. We want to save energy and fight climate warming. We want the air in Warsaw to be as clean as possible. This is what this program is for,” Rafał Trzaskowski, the Mayor of the Capital City of Warsaw, said.
