EU-US trade deal clinched
European Union negotiators reached a preliminary tariff agreement with Washington in the early hours of Wednesday morning, following weeks of intensive talks. Under the deal, Brussels has agreed to offer the United States a series of trade facilitations, while the EU has secured the right to suspend concessions should Washington breach its obligations — for instance, by raising tariffs on European goods above the 15% ceiling established in last year's Turnberry framework.
The pact is particularly significant for Poland, one of the EU's most export-oriented economies, with sectors including automotive components and machinery closely watching developments. Steel and aluminium remain outside the core agreement and are subject to continuing negotiations, with the EU retaining the right to impose countermeasures if US tariffs on those products remain above 15% beyond December 2026.
