The average gross domestic product per capita in Poland in 2019 amounted to PLN 59,600 by PLN 4,500 more than a year earlier – the Central Statistical Office (GUS) reported. However, the result of the Warsaw capital region separated for statistical purposes (which includes Warsaw itself and the eight counties surrounding it) is, however, much higher than that of any other region of Poland. In the capital city, this reading is more than twice the average and amounts to almost PLN 131,000.
What is no less important, however, is that the capital also stands out from the rest of the country in terms of the rate of growth of this indicator. In 2019, it increased by 9.3 percent compared to the previous year – it was better in this respect only in the Mazowieckie region (increase by 9.7 percent y/y) – i.e. the Mazowieckie Voivodeship, excluding the capital and its vicinity.
In the measured period, GDP per capita also increased at a good pace in the voivodships of Łódź (by 8.7 percent y/y), Pomeranian (8.6 percent), and Wielkopolskie (8.5 percent). On the other hand, the Kujawsko-Pomorskie (5.5 percent), Śląskie (5.9 percent), as well as Świętokrzyskie and Lubuskie (6.3 percent each) were developing the slowest.
This means that a large part of the richer voivodeships developed faster than the poorer ones – and therefore, despite the clear development of the latter, the difference between the two groups actually increased, not decreased.
