KP Labs joins international MAGPIE mission for European rover to the moon

The MAGPIE mission, led by ispace-Europe with partners including Poland’s KP Labs, has completed its Mission Definition Review (MDR) under the European Space Agency’s Small Missions for Exploration program. It will be Europe’s first in-situ lunar mission, aiming to explore the Moon’s south polar region for water ice, map hydrogen deposits, and study the area’s geological history. MAGPIE will use instruments such as a drill (Lunar Volatile Scout), neutron spectrometer (HardPix), ground-penetrating radar (Lunar RIMFAX), and a data processing unit.
The mission now moves toward full funding approval (expected in November 2025) and is scheduled to launch in 2028. KP Labs contributes expertise in space-based data processing, marking a milestone for Poland’s space sector.
